A letter was sent to the Prime Minster of the Kingdom of Denmark, H.E. Mrs Mette Frederiksen.
For the Fifth Replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) in 2016, Kingdom of Denmark pledged DKK 300,100,000 to the Global Fund for the 2017 – 2019 allocation cycle.
Kingdom of Denmark is a strong advocate for the rights of women and girls. The work of Kingdom of Denmark relating to sexual and reproductive health and rights of women (SRHR) aims to ensure that women have the right and the freedom to make decisions about their own bodies. The Expenditure framework for Danish Development Cooperation 2019 – 2022, specifically mentions the continuation of Denmark’s dedicated efforts to promote equal opportunity and the rights of girls and women in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5.The Global Fund priorities complement Denmark’s effort to promote gender equality with its investments promoting gender equality and addressing human rights barriers through its grants. In addition, the Global Fund insists on the meaningful engagement of women throughout the design and implementation of the programmes it funds, and has a strong focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and devotes more than one-third of its funding to Health Systems Strengthening (over USD 1 billion per year). In addition, Global Fund grants support comprehensive sexuality education and programmes to address gender-based violence as well as provides funding for education and economic empowerment programmes for adolescent girls and young women, who are disproportionately affected by HIV. Increased investments in the Global Fund will ensure that all these efforts are fast-tracked to achieve SDG 5.
