We welcome Peter van Rooijen to the GFAN AP family as an Adviser to the Steering Committee!
Peter was trained as a clinical psychologist and has been working in HIV since 1984, starting as a volunteer and later professionally in psychotherapy and psychosocial counselling. He was the Director of the Care Services of the Schorer Foundation, a gay & lesbian centre in Amsterdam; the Executive Director a.i. of the Dutch National Committee on AIDS Control, the Advisory Committee of the Dutch Government, and the Director of the Dutch Aidsfonds until 2005. In 2005, he founded International Civil Society Support (ICSS) of which he was the Executive Director until end 2018.
From April 2005 – April 2007, Peter served on the Board of The Global Fund as the Board Member of the Developed Country NGO Delegation and in this capacity, he was a member of the Finance and Audit Committee (FAC), and afterwards, its Chair. He was involved in Delegation work until 2020.
As an AIDS Advocate in the Netherlands, Europe and globally, he has been engaged in building HIV/AIDS organisations and initiatives such as Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+), IAVI, the PharmAccess Foundation, Dance4Life, AIDS Action Europe, the Robert Carr Networks Fund. He also co-founded Global Fund Advocates Network, which ICSS hosted since its creation in 2012. Mostly recently, Peter was a Board Member of the Joep Lange Institute.
As one of the co-founders and supporters of GFAN AP since its creation in 2014, we are very proud and honoured that Peter is continuing his engagement with us in this formal capacity as an Adviser to the Steering Committee!
