Senegal
Senegal has been a recipient country of the Global Fund since 2004 and has been disbursed over US$421.6 million for HIV, TB and malaria.
With he support of the Global Fund Senegal has been able to;
-
- Increase the number of people living with HIV receiving antiretroviral treatment from 44% in 2015 to 77% in 2020.
- Increase the number of people living with HIV who know their status from 56% in 2015 to 80% in 2020.
- Double the the number of people living with HIV who have suppressed viral loads between 2017 and 2020, from 33% to 65%.
- Increase the TB treatment success rate from 86% in 2015 to 91% in 2019. The total number of TB deaths decreased by 15% between 2015 and 2019.
- Decline malaria cases by 28% from 492,000 to 353,000.Between 2015 and 2019, Between 2015 and 2019, malaria deaths declined by 50%.
Senegal is also part of Multicountry Southern Africa ARASA, Multicountry TB WC Africa NTP/SRL, Multicountry West Africa ITPC, Multicountry Western Africa ANCS and Multicountry Western Africa HI grants supported by the Global Fund.
Senegal is one of the 5 African countries that co-hosted the Preparatory Meeting of the Global Fund Seventh Replenishment 23-24 February 2022. Senegal is both a donor to the Global Fund and an implementer of Global Fund-supported programs and pledged US$1 million for the Global Fund’s Sixth Replenishment, covering 2020-2022.
Senegal, along with Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire, is also part of a partnership called “Voix EssentiELLES,” which Global Fund and Fondation CHANEL are working together in oder to set up a civil society-led fund to strengthen the engagement of women and girls in developing health policies. The fund supports women’s and girls’ groups and organizations to increase their engagement in shaping public health programs and policies that address their needs. It also supports women and girls to assume leadership positions in health policy and grant implementation processes with the goal of addressing inequalities that impact their health (Learn more).
