ASIA-PACIFIC STRATEGY PLANNING FOR THE 6TH GLOBAL FUND REPLENISHMENT
GFAN AP convened its Regional 2019 Strategy Planning Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on the 27th & 28th November 2018 with a key focus on the development of national and regional advocacy plans and activities leading up to the Global Fund 6th Voluntary Replenishment Meeting, hosted by APCASO.
The Meeting brought together GFAN AP Steering Committee Members, regional and national civil society and key and vulnerable populations advocates, and a representative from the Global Fund Secretariat – from Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
The Preparatory Meeting of the 6th Replenishment will be held in New Delhi, India on the 8th February 2019, and the 6th Pledging Meeting to be held in Lyon, France on the 10th October 2019.
This meeting provided a critical opportunity for international, regional and national partners to share and update each other on plans and activities related to the 6th Replenishment, including plans and priorities by the Global Fund Secretariat and national and country partners from India, Japan and South Korea sharing their priorities and activities for 2019.
GFAN presented the “Get Back on Track” Report developed to highlight the costs of inaction; urging implementing countries to increase domestic financing of the three diseases and on health; and for donor countries to increase their pledges for the 6th Replenishment.
Participants at the meeting identified joint objectives and strategies for the Asia-Pacific region towards the 6th Replenishment for an effective Global Fund that is fully funded to serve communities and civil society, recognised the contributions of the Global Fund in achieving SDG 3 and Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and further committed to coordinating advocacy and communications activities and campaigns in the Asia-Pacific region in their workplans of 2019.
GFAN AP will lead a coordinating role in developing, implementing and supporting national and regional organisations and networks in joint activities leading towards the 6th Replenishment.
