Health Works Must Work for People: Communities and Civil Society Calls for Meaningful Participation and Accountability in Universal Health Coverage
At a Civil Society Policy Forum side event held alongside the 2026 World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings on 13 October, GFAN Asia-Pacific joined representatives from the World Bank, governments, the Global Fund and civil society to discuss how the Health Works Initiative can deliver equitable, people-centred Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Discussions highlighted the urgent need to move beyond consultation towards meaningful, institutionalised civil society and community participation in National Health Compacts, health financing decisions and accountability mechanisms. As global health financing faces growing pressures, participants called for stronger community systems, sustainable domestic financing and genuine country ownership that leaves no one behind.
World Mental Health Day 2026
This statement is jointly released by GFAN AP, ACT! AP, CSO Platform, Seven Alliance (a consortium of Asia-Pacific networks: APCOM, APN+, APNSW, APTN, ICWAP, NAPUD, Youth LEAD) and and United for Global Mental Health calling for mental health to be integrated into HIV, TB, malaria and primary health care—with communities shaping services, rights protected and sustained investment turning lived experience into real change.
World Hepatitis Day 2026
This statement is jointly released by GFAN AP, the Seven Alliance (a consortium of Asia-Pacific networks: APCOM, APN+, APNSW, APTN, ICWAP, NAPUD, Youth LEAD) and World Hepatitis Alliance calling on government, donors and relevant stakeholders to come together with communities and civil society collectively and meaningfully to recognise that eliminating viral hepatitis is inseparable from ending HIV and TB, achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and protecting the health and rights of people across Asia and Pacific.
Korean Advocates for Global Health and K-Bio Deliver Malaria Elimination Proposals to MOFA
South Korea hosted the inaugural Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Seoul from May 31 to June 2, 2026. Following the historic 2024 Korea-Africa Summit, this meeting gathered delegates from 50 African nations and four regional organisations to pave the way for the next full summit, which is targeted for 2029. This engagement reflects growing momentum to translate Korea’s global health leadership into concrete, country level impact across Africa.
