Netherlands

The Netherlands is the tenth largest donor to the Global Fund, with a total contribution of € 1.094 billion to date. The country pledged € 156 million to the Global Fund for its Sixth Replenishment, and an additional € 27 million through the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-A) as part of its response to COVID-19. A March 2019 Report “The Netherlands and the Global Fund” details the partnership between the Global Fund and the Netherlands.

Reducing poverty and social inequality is one of the overarching Dutch development cooperation policy goals which encompasses sexual and reproductive health and rights of HIV and AIDS. Areas of interest within these themes are prevention and care, key populations, health systems strengthening and civil society advocacy for health. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls is a cross-cutting goal. In addition, human rights and global partnerships are also central themes in the Netherlands’ investments.
