Statement

Mental Health Key for Healthy Workforce and Healthy Economies

This statement is jointly released by Global Fund Advocates Network Asia-Pacific (GFAN AP), United for Global Mental Health (UnitedGMH) and the Seven Alliance on World Mental Health Day 2024. As communities and civil society from the Asia-Pacific, we are reminded of the inseparable relationships between mental health, health systems, and access to gainful employment, especially as they have a compounding effect on key and vulnerable communities living with and/or affected by HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria.

Safe and healthy work environments promote positive mental health and provide workers a sense of security through gainful employment. However, members of key and vulnerable populations often face societal, legal, and systematic barriers as well asnd stigma and discrimination that prevent them from accessing quality health services and employment and/or safe and healthy environments for work.

As we have less than 6 years to achieve the 2030 targets set for the Sustainable Development Goals, more efforts and resources are necessary to accelerate the progress and sustain the achievements so far for populations living with and/or affected by HIV, TB and malaria in the Asia-Pacific. As communities and civil society in the Asia-Pacific region, we are cognisant of the role that the Global Fund plays in shaping health responses and supporting community and civil society in sustainable and quality health programming and service delivery, and call on all stakeholders to step up their efforts collectively for more holistic integrated health services.
